Frequently Asked Questions

  • What to do before an Evolt body scan?

To ensure repeatability and to achieve the best results it is recommended that the person doing the scan is rested, fasted and well hydrated. If they are dehydrated when scanning, this can affect their total body water volume and consequently lean body mass.

  • What does an Evolt body scan tell you?

The Evolt 360 body scanner is a highly advanced device that provides comprehensive details on your overall health, including fat and muscle composition as well as a comparison of your biological age to your chronological age and level of fitness.

  • How to prepare for an Evolt scan?

Preferably do not scan after training. Ensure you are well hydrated. Do not consume alcoholic beverages within 24-48 hours prior to your scan. Ideally do not consume caffeine, pre-workouts or thermogenics (fat burners) before you scan.

  • Why no caffeine before Evolt?

To ensure proper hydration, it's best practice to avoid alcohol for 24 hours before scanning and to skip caffeine on the morning of the scan. Additionally, when scanning, it's best not to consume any pre-workouts for accurate readings.

  • What not to do before a body scan?

    • Do not consume alcohol within 48 hours of testing.

YOUR BODY COMPOSITION questions

  • What is lean body mass?

Calculating the total weight of everything in your body excluding fat, which includes muscle, bone, and water, essentially representing your body's non-fat mass; a higher lean body mass relative to your total weight indicates a healthier body composition and better metabolism for burning fuel and utilizing body fat.

  • What is skeletal muscle mass?

The amount of muscle tissue attached to your bones, essentially representing your active, working muscles used for movement, and is considered a key component of your overall lean body mass, which is calculated by subtracting body fat from your total weight; a higher skeletal muscle mass indicates greater muscle development and can be linked to improved metabolism, strength, and functional ability.

  • What is protein?

It measures protein as the amount of nitrogen in the body, which indicates protein synthesis in muscles. Helps repair & build cells, tissues, fuel energy, carry oxygen through the body, fight infections and keeps cells healthy and create new ones.

  • What is mineral?

This is an estimate of bone mineral content. Having high skeletal muscle mass and protein mass will assert in maintaining a good bone mineral content. Bone content can decrease with age.

  • What is total body water?

(TBW) measurement is a percentage of a person's weight that is made up of water inside and outside of cells. Water ICF, electrolytes, and proteins found inside cells makes up about 66% of TBW. Water ECF found outside of cells, traveling in the circulatory and lymphatic systems makes up about 34% of TBW.

  • What is body fat mass?

Calculating the total weight of fat tissue within your body, including both subcutaneous fat (under the skin) and visceral fat (around organs), essentially giving you the total amount of fat present in your body, expressed in kilograms or pounds, as opposed to just a percentage of body fat; this is considered a more detailed measurement than just a body fat percentage alone.

  • What is subcutaneous fat mass?

By using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) technology to determine the amount of fat stored directly under the skin, essentially the "pinchable" fat you can see on the body, as opposed to visceral fat which surrounds organs; the scan provides a specific measurement of this fat mass in kilograms, allowing you to track changes in your body composition over time.

  • What is visceral fat mass?

By calculating the amount of fat stored around your internal organs, which is considered "hidden" fat not visible from the outside, and presents this data as a score on the scan.

  • What is visceral fat area?

Measurement indicates the amount of fat stored around your internal organs, essentially the space occupied by this fat, which is considered a key health marker as high levels can be linked to increased risk of chronic diseases; this measurement is displayed as a numerical value on the scan, allowing you to track changes in your visceral fat over time, even if your overall body fat percentage remains the same.

  • What is intracellular fluid (ICF) & (ECF)?

The scan measures "intracellular fluid" (ICF) as the fluid located inside cells, while "extracellular fluid" (ECF) refers to the fluid outside cells, and an Evolt scan provides a reading of your total body water which is comprised of both ICF and ECF, allowing you to see how much water is contained within your cells versus the fluid surrounding them; essentially indicating your body's overall hydration level and potential imbalances between compartments.

  • What is BMR?

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) by measuring your body composition, specifically your skeletal muscle mass, which is the primary factor determining how many calories your body burns at rest; essentially, the more muscle you have, the higher your BMR will be because muscle tissue requires more energy to maintain compared to fat tissue.

  • What is TEE?

"TEE" stands for "Total Energy Expenditure," which is a calculated value representing the total number of calories your body burns in a day, taking into account your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and your activity level throughout the day; essentially, it estimates how many calories you need to consume to maintain your current weight based on your body composition data gathered by the scan.

  • What is BIO age?

Bio Age is a measurement of your body's age based on your body composition. It's a comparison of your body's health to your chronological age.

  • What is BWI score?

BWI score, which stands for "Bio-Wellness Index," is a proprietary rating that provides a comprehensive assessment of your body composition health by comparing your lean muscle mass to your total fat mass, including visceral fat (fat around organs), giving a single score that reflects your overall health status rather than just weight alone, making it considered a more advanced version of BMI; a higher BWI score indicates a better balance of muscle to fat, signifying better overall health. Athletic Rating – 9.0 - 10 | Optimal Rating – 8.0 - 8.9 | Average Rating – 7.0 - 7.9 Below Average Rating – 6.0 - 6.9 | Poor Rating – 0 -5.9 18.
